Willow Court care home receive Covid Hero Award
This week we would love to congratulate our friends over at Willow Court in Aldwickbury Crescent, who have just been highly commended in the Covid Hero Awards!
The Covid Hero Award is a category, as part of the Great British Care Awards – series of regional events throughout the UK celebrating excellence across the care sector. This award highlights exceptional work during the pandemic, a time when care homes were some of the toughest places to work, physically and emotionally. Sarah Adlam, the manager of the home, led her team in creating an extraordinary level of care for the residents, who were unable throughout the lockdowns to receive visits from their families or leave the home. Some of the activities the team used to combat these restrictions included an indoor bird sanctuary, an indoor “street café”, the Willow Tree Restaurant, and even an à la carte birthday breakfast service, all transforming the residents’ lives during that difficult time.
We at Music for my Mind have had the pleasure of working with Sarah and her team before the pandemic, as Willow Court is one of the care homes from the Quantum Care group, who collaborate in our research. The home and staff have always been fantastic, welcoming and ever eager to improve the lives of their residents. Music has really helped, with residents using the personalised playlists both in their rooms and the dining areas, sharing memories as well as revisiting their own. As one resident simply told us, “it brought everything back”.
We are incredibly eager to get back to working with Willow Court once things are fully back to normal, but for now congratulations to Sarah and her team for their stunning work!
